Elisabeth Herrmann-Otto is Professor of Ancient History at the University of Trier and was from 2003 to 2009 Spokesperson for the DFG Graduate College 846 "Slavery - Serfdom and Compulsory Labour - Forced Labour. Unfree Work and Life from Antiquity to the 20th Century". Her research interests are: ancient social and economic history (including slavery and poverty), Greek and Roman constitutional history, cultural history (including the study of age, gender and ceremonies), early Christianity and late antiquity. She is the author of Sklaverei und Freilassung in der griechisch-römischen Welt (2009).
